How to check if a cable is RoHS compliant?
1.Request third-party test report (SGS, TÜV, BV).
2.Verify 10 restricted substances below limits:
- Pb ≤ 0.1%
- Hg ≤ 0.1%
- Cd ≤ 0.01%
- CrVI ≤ 0.1%
- PBB ≤ 0.1%
- PBDE ≤ 0.1%
- DEHP, BBP, DBP, DIBP each ≤ 0.1%
3.Ensure report dated within 1 year and test standard IEC 62321.
Can UL certification replace CE certification for cables?
No. They are based on different standards and not interchangeable. Comparison:
Feature | UL | CE |
Market | USA | EU |
Standard | UL 83, UL 1581 | IEC/EN 50525 |
Legal status | Not mandatory but widely required | Mandatory |
Focus | Safety, flame, temperature | Safety, environment, CPR |
What tests are included in CE certification for cables?
LVD 2014/35/EU
- Dielectric strength: 2.5 kV AC, 1 min (IEC 60227)
- Insulation resistance: ≥10 MΩ·km at 20°C
- Conductor DC resistance: per IEC 60228 max.
RoHS 2011/65/EU
- 10 restricted substances (Pb, Hg, Cd, etc.)
CPR (EU 305/2011) – for construction cables
- Fire performance per EN 50575 (flame spread, heat release, smoke)
