Carbon Fiber Composite Core Conductor

AAAC 6201-T81 aluminum-magnesium alloy conductor. Superior strength-to-weight ratio, excellent sag characteristics. Corrosion resistant.

Application

ACCC carbon fiber composite core overhead conductor for high-voltage transmission lines in grid capacity expansion projects, uprating of existing lines without tower modification, long-span river/river crossing applications, and coastal/marine environments. Hybrid carbon/glass fiber composite core with trapezoidal aluminum strands. ASTM B987 compliant. Operating temp up to 200°C.

Core Strengths

Conventional ACSR conductors sag badly under high temp, limiting upgrade capacity. Our ACCC's carbon-glass composite core provides ultra-low thermal expansion, 28% more aluminum area, 50% less sag at high temp. Higher ampacity, no tower modification. ASTM B987.

Standard

ASTM B987 / B987M

GB/T 29324-2024

Construction

〉   Core: Carbon fiber and glass fiber hybrid composite with high-temperature epoxy resin

〉   Outer layer: Fully annealed aluminum strands (≥63% IACS conductivity)

〉   Strand shape: Trapezoidal, enabling tight helical winding around the core

〉   Core-to-conductor ratio: Lighter and smaller diameter than conventional steel core, allowing ~28% more aluminum content without weight penalty

Features

〉   Rated for continuous operation up to 150–200°C, enabling up to 2× ampacity of conventional conductors

〉   High strength-to-weight ratio: ~70% lighter and ~50% stronger than steel, allowing longer spans and reduced structure count

〉   Very low thermal expansion: High-temperature sag is less than half that of ACSR, improving clearance safety

〉   Line losses reduced by 25–30% or more, eliminating magnetic hysteresis losses inherent in steel-cored conductors

〉   Non-corrosive composite core prevents galvanic reaction between core and aluminum strands, extending service life

〉   Excellent resistance to Aeolian vibration, often eliminating need for vibration dampers
